.Professor Cook is a consultant pathologist at Royal Surrey County Hospital and consulting dermatopathologist at St George’s Hospital in London. He also is visiting Professor to the University of Surrey.
His main interest is dermatopathology particularly melanoma. He received his early training in pathology in Leeds and at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School at Hammersmith in London.
He gained his interest and expertise in skin cancer by working for 8 years in Adelaide Australia and returned to UK in 1985 to lead diagnostic histopathology at St George’s Hospital. He retained his links to St George’s after moving to Guildford in 1989.
He published extensively on melanoma and set up one of the first units dealing with pathology of sentinel lymph nodes for melanoma.
He is currently Chairman of the UK Melanoma Studies Group and Chairman of the Pathology Section of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Melanoma Group and is also a member of the NCRI Melanoma Clinical Studies Group.
He is actively involved in several projects ranging from the identification of prognostic features in melanoma to the correlation between genetic mutations and histological features of melanoma.
Dr Jonathan Bowling
Jonathan Bowling is a Consultant Dermatologist and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Oxford University Department of Dermatology. He was the chair of the Oxford LSMDT and West Thames Valley SSMDT for skin cancer. His main interests are dermatological surgery, dermoscopy, hair and nail pathology and the management of patients with skin cancer genetic syndromes.
Current research projects include the development of a validated scoring system to determine the clinical accuracy of melanoma diagnosis by clinicians.
He is the UK board member and faculty member of the World Congress of the International Dermoscopy Society.
